Cigarette Litter Prevention
As part of the 2019 CLPP, Keep America Beautiful distributed 48 grants, totaling more than $300,000, to our community-based affiliates and partner organizations.
Keep America Beautiful also partnered with Wesley Schultz Ph.D., Dean at California State University San Marcos to conduct a research project designed to determine if public service advertising in combination with litter prevention tools affects local cigarette litter. The campaign’s out-of-home advertisements were comprised of creative resources from the agency Leo Burnett, which featured messaging that encouraged improving cigarette littering behavior through education and awareness. The pilot was activated in Columbus, Ohio, and Memphis, Tennessee.
Additionally, Keep America Beautiful, as part of a Philip Morris USA-supported initiative called “Stand for the Land,” distributed 10,000 litter stands to affiliates and partner organizations to place in public spaces in 35 states nationwide.
