Great American Cleanup
The 2019 program featured a new Common Ground campaign. Local, state, and national elected officials were invited to GAC events to demonstrate that the cleanliness of communities across the country is a non-partisan issue everyone can support regardless of political differences.
The 2019 GAC kicked off at the Keep the Tennessee River Grand Slam Cleanup, in which Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Helen Lowman attended and participated. The series brought four major cleanup events to more than 400 river miles.
Keep America Beautiful-Newark in Newark, New Jersey, officially kicked off as a new Keep America Beautiful branch, with a Great American Cleanup series across four wards of the city. More than 100 volunteers participated in the first event.
Keep America Beautiful, along with national sponsors and partner organizations, engaged volunteers who logged 3.8 million volunteer hours in transforming public spaces; improving and beautifying roads, shorelines, and waterways; and planting trees, flowers, gardens. In total, 20.8 million pounds of litter and 21.6 million pounds of recyclables were collected.
