Keep Brevard Beautiful Spends Summer Cleaning Up
Keep Brevard Beautiful hosts fifth annual Summer Cleanup Series.
Keep Brevard Beautiful (KBB), along with partner Florida Today, hosted four cleanup events — the fifth annual Summer Cleanup Series — spanning weekend days in June and July. The cleanups were held at the following locations: Kiwanis Island Park on Merritt Island; Parrish Park in Titusville; Paddling Paradise in Palm Bay; and Kelly Park East in Merritt Island.
More than 100 people participated in the first event; over 140 volunteers at the second; more than 160 at the third; and nearly 150 at the fourth and final cleanup. After each cleanup, volunteers were invited to attend post-event parties featuring food, drinks, kayaking and paddle-boarding. In addition, volunteers who attend all four events were entered to win a kayak or a four-pack of Disney tickets.
In total, more than 3,000 pounds of litter and debris were removed from the local environment during the cleanup series, including a broken paddle boat and a 1960’s era glass soft drink bottle, which was found fully intact.
