Who Says Trash Can’t Be Fashionable?

On Saturday, Feb. 3, Keep Orlando Beautiful (KOB) hosted its fifth annual “Trash 2 Trends” fundraiser celebrating sustainability through fashion.

Thirty-five local artists showed off their innovative designs made from recyclable materials such as plastic bags, old newspapers, bubble wrap, cardboard boxes and the like. Nearly 500 attendees packed SeaWorld’s Ports of Call during the fashionable cocktail hour in their own custom outfits to match the sustainability theme.

Models walked down the runway in one-of-a-kind upcycled designs. One designer made a dress out of debris from Hurricane Irma, while another, paid tribute to Puerto Rico with her design. At the end of the night, five of the 35 designers received best of show honors, but there’s no doubt that all the artists won over everyone’s hearts with their creativity.

Sponsors, partners, attendees and designers helped KOB raise a net of $22,000 that will go directly to the Orlando community to improve recycling, prevent litter, beautify the local community and create educational programs focusing on the importance of maintaining the community environment.
