OKC Beautiful Completes 50th Anniversary Art Project

At OKC Beautiful’s 50th Anniversary Gala, money was raised to install a public art project to bring color and life to a local neighborhood. The installation depicts characters of various shapes and sizes dancing in an Oklahoma thunderstorm. “Birdwatching OKC Lightning Thunder Dance Party” by Joe Slack is a colorful combination of paint and metal work that is unique and reflective of the surrounding community. The project spans two blocks. Joe and his assistant put 1,800 hours into this project between sketching, measuring, cutting, installing, and painting. OKC Beautiful looks forward to closing down the street and hosting a community dance party in front of the mural when it is safe again to do so.
