STAMFORD, Conn. (Sept. 27, 2017) – Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, has two fall school-based educational initiatives with deadlines fast approaching.

The 7th annual Recycle-Bowl, Keep America Beautiful’s national K-12 school-based recycling competition, begins on Oct. 16 and culminates on America Recycles Day, Nov. 15. The deadline for schools to register is Friday, Oct. 13.

Recycle-Bowl Champions are crowned in five categories: School Division, Community Division, District Division, Waste Reduction and Food Scrap Collection. Through participation in Recycle-Bowl and America Recycles Day, the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States, Keep America Beautiful is helping communities spotlight recycling on a local level by educating students and community members on how and what to recycle, while providing an array of resources to improve recycling in America. New this year, Recycle-Bowl is partnering with PepsiCo, a presenting sponsor, to offer participants the opportunity to concurrently sign up for PepsiCo’s year-round Recycle Rally program.

Registration for the fun and engaging four-week in-school competition is open to teachers, school administrators, school facility managers, PTA/PTO and other parent groups and local recycling advocates. Recycle-Bowl registration will remain open until Oct. 10, one week before the start of the competition on Oct. 16. Nearly 700,000 students and teachers from more than 1,290 schools across the nation competed in the 2016 Recycle-Bowl.

“How Will You…End Littering?” High School Video Contest

Keep America Beautiful’s second annual “How Will You…End Littering?” Video Contest is open to students in grades 9-12. The contest, sponsored by the Wrigley Company Foundation, asks students to share their ideas about how to end littering by educating and motivating people to properly dispose of their trash. Entries will be accepted through Oct. 13, 2017. To submit an entry and review Official Rules, visit KeepAmericaBeautiful.Strutta.me.

The “How Will You…End Littering?” Video Contest challenges students to tackle the issue of litter and littering behavior by creating a 30- to 60-second public service message video that conveys that littering is costly, harmful to the environment and economy, illegal and just downright wrong. Videos will be promoted through social media and other online channels as well as national and local market publicity efforts, sparking a campaign to encourage personal responsibility to make littering a socially unacceptable behavior.

Two Grand Prize Winners — one representing grades 9-10 and one from grades 11-12 — will receive a GoPro HERO5 Black video camera and an all-expenses paid trip for two to the 2018 Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Dallas, Texas, with their video being showcased in front of more than 400 conference attendees.

Two Runners-Up — one in grades 9-10, one in grades 11-12 — will receive a GoPro HERO5 Session video camera. The first 20 eligible entrants in each grade category will receive a $25 Best Buy Gift Card.

Eligible video entries may not contain copyrighted music that requires any additional clearances for the sponsors to use or post on public websites or to use in public forums of any kind or contain or reference any names, products or services of any company or entity or any third party trademarks, logos, trade dress or promotion of any brand, product or service. Individuals are encouraged to review the Official Rules prior to entering at KeepAmericaBeautiful.Strutta.me.
