Helen Lowman was walking her dog, Riley, near their Westport home recently when she spotted items that qualify as The Enemy in her professional life.
“What are all those white things over there on the ground?” she wondered.
Used disinfecting wipes were along curbs.
She looked further ahead on the horizon.
“Oh my gosh, those are plastic gloves. Just on the sidewalk.”
Such sights should be distressing to anyone. For Lowman, president of Keep America Beautiful, it was a call to arms.
A colleague, Bridgeport resident Hillary Brown, mentioned the repulsive phenomenon the previous day. But here was evidence, right next door.
