Thousands of pounds of litter collected from illegal dumpsites

Keep South Carolina Beautiful and Keep Berkeley Beautiful joined PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter and beautification organization, in hosting the recent Francis Marion National Forest Cleanup.

Over 700 volunteers participated in the 13th annual cleanup event on Feb. 1, 2020, more than doubling participation from last year. This year, volunteers removed more than 21,000 pounds of trash and 4,800 pounds of tires. Individuals also used kayaks to clean up litter in local waterways.

In partnership with the South Carolina Forestry Commission and USDA Forest Services, PalmettoPride piloted the National Parks and Forest Program to bring volunteers together to clean up illegal dumpsites in forests and parks across the state.
