Ryan Federspiel, a dedicated 13-year-old Keep Brevard Beautiful volunteer, gives back to his community by participating in beach cleanups as well as helping others by putting his skills as a competitive figure skater to use with special needs children.

In June 2017, Ryan and his family moved from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, to Florida. Ryan’s quest for local volunteer opportunities led him to work with Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Sea Turtle Preservation Society (STPS), where he’s volunteered for many beach cleanups. Recently, Ryan was able to collect approximately 20 pounds of trash in an hour and a half from Melbourne Beach and he also helps to clean up Hightower Beach on a bi-weekly basis.

Apart from school and volunteer cleanups at the beach, Ryan is also a competive figure skater! He has been skating for seven-and-a-half years, practicing four days a week. Last fall, he competed at the U.S. Figure Skating South Atlantic Regional Championships in Pennsylvania. His skating goal is to earn one or more ‘gold medalist’ rankings from various skating test tracks.

This young community steward also assists special needs children with therapeutic ice theater at a local ice skating rink.

Thank you, Ryan, for all that you do!
