Along the shore of the Clinch River, there are a few items that don’t belong: a refrigerator, a high heel and empty water bottles.

On Saturday morning, dozens of volunteers gathered at Solway Park to help remove those items, along with other trash and litter, as part of the 30th annual Ijams River Rescue.
The cleanup effort, coordinated by Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful, works to remove trash from the Tennessee River and its tributaries. Volunteers will work along more than 400 miles of the river over the course of four weekends, said Kathleen Gibi, executive director of Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful.
