As the Senior Director of Operations for Keep America Beautiful (KAB), April Wennerstrom plays a vital role in overseeing the organization’s day-to-day functions, ensuring efficiency, and driving impact across its national programs. In support of KAB’s hardworking affiliates, she leads the National Conference program and manages the KAB National Awards Program, both designed to enhance affiliate success. Since 2005, she has been a dedicated advocate for the Affiliate Network, continually inspired by the commitment and transformative work its members bring to their communities.
April’s passion for social justice, environmental stewardship, and creating beautiful spaces is deeply rooted in her upbringing. Influenced by her parents’ careers—one as a military service member and the other as an equal employment and anti-discrimination investigator for the Department of Defense—she is driven by a strong sense of advocacy and purpose.
Her career journey has taken her around the world, including time spent living in Germany and Italy. Prior to joining KAB, she worked as a Public Relations Manager at IBM, led an international judging competition for ThinkQuest (a tech startup that awarded over $5 million annually in scholarships to students building educational websites), and served as a volunteer recruiter and manager for the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, coordinating nearly 2,000 volunteers per event.
Beyond her professional work, April finds deep fulfillment in volunteerism. She has served as a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut for over 20 years. She and her family are also active supporters of Keep Norwalk Beautiful, participating in local cleanups and initiatives to improve their community.
April holds a B.A. in Communications from Marist University and resides in Connecticut with her family, where she continues to champion efforts to keep communities clean, green, and beautiful.
