WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 21, 2015) — In celebration of America Recycles Day (ARD), Keep America Beautiful (KAB) invited people to give their garbage another life and pledge to recycle more by taking the“I Recycle” pledge online.
All ARD pledge-takers who pledged online from Jan. 1, 2014 through Nov. 30, 2014, were entered into a random drawing to receive a park bench made from recycled plastic, courtesy of Plastic Recycling of Iowa Falls Inc. and KAB. These recycled content park benches are a great example that material can be transformed into something new and valuable when recycled.
“I Want To Be Recycled” was the theme of Keep America Beautiful’s 2014 ARD, which takes place annually on and around Nov. 15. America Recycles Day educates people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being and helps to motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers.
More than 2 million people participated in over 1,000 ARD events throughout the country. Chosen to receive park benches from among the more than 11,000 people who pledged to recycle more were:
- Claire Hadlock, Baton Rouge, La.
- Dorothee Kinney, Manchester, N.H.
- Kelli Lake, Dry Ridge, Ky.
“Keep America Beautiful’s America Recycles Day pledge provides individuals with the opportunity to make a public commitment to recycle more. We are recognizing a select few of these pledge-takers with a plastic recycled-content park bench as a thank you for their commitment, but also as a tangible reminder of how our recyclables can be transformed into useful and lasting new products,” said Brenda Pulley, senior vice president/recycling, KAB. “I thank everyone that took the pledge and congratulate all of our winners for recycling and giving their garbage another life.”
America’s leading companies are proud to make America Recycles Day possible. National sponsors of the 2014 America Recycles Day were: Amcor, American Chemistry Council, the Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Pilot Corporation of America (Pilot Pen) and Waste Management.
