STAMFORD, Conn. (Oct. 19, 2016) – Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit that envisions a country that is a clean, green and beautiful place to live, honored Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and its Chairman and CEO, David M. Cote, with the 2016 Vision for America Award on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in New York City.
“Keep America Beautiful and Honeywell share the belief that when individuals, corporations, governments and nonprofits work together, we can fulfill a vision of a country—and a world—in which every community can be environmentally healthy, socially connected and economically sound, said Jennifer M. Jehn, president and CEO, Keep America Beautiful. “Honeywell’s strong sustainability legacy of more than a century continues to this day with best-in-class energy efficiency solutions and innovations for homes, buildings, factories and transportation.”
“Good business, economic growth, and responsibility can – and must – go hand in hand. That principle is what guides Honeywell as we grow and accelerate productivity while meeting – or exceeding – all applicable regulatory standards,” said Cote in accepting the Award. “It is through passionate and enduring leadership, a committed workforce, and effective partnerships that we can achieve lasting outcomes that will ensure a Vision for America that is achievable and sustainable for us all.”
Honeywell’s Vision for America and for the world is to blend its physical products with software to support connected systems that improve homes, buildings, factories, utilities, vehicles and aircraft, and that enable safer, more comfortable, efficient, and productive environments. Our solutions enhance the quality of life of people around the globe, create new markets and industries, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
With nearly 50 percent of its revenue linked to energy efficiency, Honeywell can help the world face its energy challenges. In fact, if Honeywell’s existing technologies were widely adopted today, energy demand in the U.S. could be reduced by 20 percent to 25 percent.
Honeywell has created the home of the future with a new family of innovative connected home products including the Lyric thermostat that allows homeowners to control their thermostats from anywhere in the world.
The Company also provides industry-leading technologies in automated building controls, energy management solutions with insulation and refrigerants, and remote monitoring.
Honeywell is a pioneer of Energy Savings Performance Contracts, which provide opportunities for entities of all sizes and financial positions to upgrade critical facilities and infrastructure with energy efficient technologies, while minimizing their financial and technical risk. The Company has completed more than 5,700 projects around the world. Combined, this work is expected to decrease customers’ energy and operating costs by an estimated $6 billion.
In 2015, Honeywell introduced the Smart Building Score, which evaluates a building’s use of 15 technology assets that make a building greener, safe, and productive, based on the systems’ overall capabilities, coverage of the facility, and uptime.
Honeywell is a leader in managing demand response and energy efficient programs for utilities. The Company’s industrial smart grid controls reduce plant carbon emissions by 15 percent.
Honeywell also has been at the forefront of innovation in air conditioning, refrigeration, and insulation for more than five decades. The Company estimates that the use of Solstice®, its brand of low-global-warming-potential materials, will eliminate more than 475 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents by 2025, the equivalent of taking 100 million cars off the road.
Honeywell also is proud of its energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction improvements within its own businesses. It applies a rigorous set of internal controls – the Honeywell Operating System (HOS) – to drive sustainable improvements and the elimination of waste in its manufacturing operations.
The Company is now nearly 40 percent more energy efficient, and more than 65 percent more greenhouse gas efficient than it was in 2004. And in March of 2015, Honeywell met with President Obama to set yet another public goal: By 2019 it will increase greenhouse gas efficiency by another 10 percent.
The Vision for America Award was presented to Cote by Dinner Co-Chairs: Kenneth M. Jacobs, chairman & CEO, Lazard, and Blair Effron, partner and co-founder of Centerview Partners.
The prestigious Vision for America Award was presented at a dinner before distinguished guests, including senior public officials and business leaders.
