2024 America Recycles Day Hero Award Honoree: National Training Center and Fort Irwin
The 2024 America Recycles Day Hero Award goes to the National Training Center (NTC) and Fort Irwin, CA.
Keep America Beautiful, in partnership with Keep California Beautiful, announced that the 2024 America Recycles Day Hero Award has been presented to the National Training Center (NTC) and Fort Irwin, California, the U.S. Army’s premier field-combat training facility. The award was given in recognition for their outstanding commitment to recycling, waste management, and conservation efforts across their 750,000-acre base.
The America Recycles Day Hero Award, presented by Keep America Beautiful, honors U.S. military installations and active or retired military personnel who demonstrate exceptional leadership and innovation in waste reduction and recycling.
“The dedication and innovative efforts demonstrated by the NTC and Fort Irwin underscore the significant role military installations play in promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship,” said Ray Scott, Board President Emeritus, Keep California Beautiful.
Examples of these initiatives include chipping and reusing wood debris and pallets as ground cover, bailing non-recyclable materials to minimize scattering caused by desert winds, and collecting and crimping spent ammunition to ensure safe disposal, to name a few.
Funding for America Recycles Day 2024 has been generously provided by Altria, Anheuser-Busch, Cirba Solutions, IBWA, Kimberly-Clark, Niagara Cares, Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, and Veggie Wash.
