Keep America Beautiful® recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month by acknowledging the outstanding contributions of individuals who have profoundly impacted their communities. We would like to highlight the inspiring stories of William Roman and Yaritza Tinoco, exceptional members of Keep America Beautiful ® (KAB) network.
William Roman, Deputy Director of Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement
In Spartanburg County, South Carolina, William Roman, the Deputy Director of Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement, has emerged as a dedicated leader in pursuing a clean and green community. Born in New York, he moved to Puerto Rico at the age of 1 and was raised there. His passion for community and environmental well-being led him to Spartanburg County, where he has lived with his family for the past two decades.
William’s outstanding initiatives, including the Bags with Bags Program, showcase his commitment. This program, a collaboration between law enforcement and civilians, focused on cleaning up littered areas on busy, dangerous roads, instilling pride among locals, and transforming the county. His five years of service on Keep OneSpartanburg Beautiful‘s (KOB) board is a testament to his unwavering commitment and made him an inspiration for KAB and beyond.
Yaritza Tinoco, Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful Liasion
In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Yaritza Tinoco, originally from Veracruz, Mexico, assumed the role of Liaison at Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful on June 26, 2023. In her first 3-months with KAB and KMBB, driven by her deep love for her community, she swiftly organized five litter reduction events and a beautification project.
Yaritza’s strong connection to her Mexican heritage, instilled by her close-knit family, remained steadfast throughout her 26 years in South Carolina. Her mother’s teachings about their culture, language, and traditional celebrations like the Day of the Dead shaped Yaritza’s worldview and enriched her life in Little River, SC, where her family thrives as an integral part of the community.
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Keep America Beautiful® celebrates William Roman and Yaritza Tinoco for their exceptional work in environmental conservation. Their stories serve as an example that diversity and unity are the foundations of vibrant, thriving communities.
