Research shows that some people would never consider tossing a soda can or a candy wrapper on the ground, but they won’t think twice about flicking away a cigarette butt.
They may be surprised to be called litterers, according to a 2009 study, “Litter in America,” by the nonprofit Keep America Beautiful organization.
But dropping partially smoked cigarettes, cigarette butts, matches, lighters and packaging to the ground is littering.
