Q&A with Keep Brevard Beautiful Executive Director, Bryan Bobbitt:
How long have you been the executive director of Keep Brevard Beautiful?
I have been the Executive Director of KBB for 3 years.
When did your passion for taking care of the environment begin?
When I was in high school, I volunteered with KBB and also served as the first mate on a nature tour boat on weekends.
Tell us about your staff at Keep Brevard Beautiful.
We have 22 staff members who all love what they do and believe in our mission. They all go above and beyond every day for KBB and our community.
You received a 2020 Keep America Beautiful Innovation award. Tell us about that project and why it was important to you to complete.
During the pandemic, we had to figure out a way that we could fulfill our obligation to teach all the 4th and 5th graders of Brevard County about litter reduction. When we could not go into schools and everyone was virtual learning, we decided to make a broadcast studio so we can still work. We also developed an app that volunteers could use to report cleanups, hotspots and RSVP to our events. It also serves as a time clock for paid staff. Without it, we would not have been able to track reports during the lockdowns.
Besides that project, what are some other things you and your staff and volunteers have done that you’re exceptionally proud of?
I am very proud to announce that we have just opened the first compost facility in Brevard County. It is the first of five that we will have that will directly service the homes near the site on a subscription basis.
What’s going on in 2022 for Keep Brevard Beautiful that you want everyone to know about?
In 2022, we are going to start a weekly broadcast show from our office studio and bring in community partners and volunteers to highlight what they are doing to improve our community.
