With the environment becoming an ever more important issue in the lives of young students, Keep Jackson Beautiful’s 2015 Lowe’s Community Partners Grant couldn’t have come at a better time.

Keep Jackson Beautiful received the $5,000 grant to build an outdoor classroom/learning garden for the students of Poindexter Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi. The learning garden is designed to provide the students with opportunities to gain an appreciation and better understanding of the natural world around them by providing them a hands-on opportunity to learn about nature. With this opportunity, they will learn about man’s impact on the environment as well as its importance in their daily lives, even in a small area such as their school or community environment.

In addition to the grant, Lowe’s supplied a number of hard-working Lowe’s Heroes, employee volunteers, who came out to help build the garden. Because of Lowe’s generosity, many young students will be learn more about the natural world in the years to come.
