Keep Nassau Beautiful sponsors America Recycles Day event for Florida school.

Keep Nassau Beautiful (KNB), in Fernandina Beach, Florida, joined with Amelia Island Montessori School to teach a middle school class about recycling.

Held on America Recycles Day, the program focused on recycling education and environmental stewardship. KNB Board Member Ashley Powell taught students about recycling Do’s and Don’ts with an interactive activity called “Recycling Pizza.”  Following the lesson, the class participated in a beach cleanup to see the importance of litter-free beaches first-hand.

“Students learned about re-purposing single-use materials by creating reusable totes from feedbags donated by White Oak Conservation,” according to a release.

The class used personalized reusable bags, as well as trash grabbers and reusable gloves, during the event held at American Beach. Afterward, their teacher, Karl Schlobohm, encouraged them to think of other ways in which they can use their reusable totes.

KNB said it plans to continue getting involved in educational events and encouraging behavior change.
