Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) together with Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced 2018 End Litter video winners.

KOB End Litter video competition is an annual competition in two categories – high school and college. Each group has the opportunity to submit a 30- to 45-second video that covers the issues of litter and illegal dumping in Oklahoma.

A panel of judges selects the finalists. Once the finalists are identified, the winner is selected by a public online vote. The winners in each category receive a $750 cash prize and are recognized at the Environmental Excellence Celebration. Cash prizes are provided by ODOT.

“ODOT is very pleased to continue our sponsorship of this important public awareness campaign through the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful video competition,” J. Michael Patterson, Executive Director, ODOT said. “I am very proud of the talent of the students who have submitted their entries because they are making a statement and wanting to make a societal difference in the State of Oklahoma.”

The winning high school video was “Do Your Part,” from Mooreland High School. The team members were Jane Curry (group leader) Hunter Vaughan, Logan Maher, Kimber McNaught, Madison Syms and Kereeya Thavanapong. Julie Focht supervised the project.

“I like to find ways to make classwork applicable to my students,” said Julie Foct, Computer Technology Teacher, grades 10-12, Mooreland High School. “This video contest gave my students the opportunity to apply the video editing skills they learned in class to create a project where they learned about an issue that directly affects them. The competition gave them an incentive, knowing there was a chance their work could be used to educate others about the littering issue in our state.”

The winning college video was “This is Oklahoma,” from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). The video was produced by Jessica “Jessie” Ray and supervised by Jonna Myers.

“I entered the competition because I really love what Keep Oklahoma Beautiful does as an organization and the awareness they bring to the community, “ Jessie Ray, Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing Senior, SWOSU, said. “I also love to make videos, especially ones that show off Oklahoma!”
