June 22, 2017 (PHOENIX) – A new garden is coming to life in Phoenix! Keep Phoenix Beautiful is launching a crowdsourcing campaign to raise $25,000 for their new Keep Phoenix Beautiful Community Garden. Funds raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Keep America Beautiful and Lowe’s, up to $25,000, bringing the potential total amount to invest in sustainable practices here in Central Phoenix and nationwide to $50,000. Donate now through Aug. 31 at https://bit.ly/helpkpbgrow.
“This new garden is a place where residents and visitors can come and learn about urban sustainability,” says Tom Waldeck, President and CEO of Keep Phoenix Beautiful. “Each donation received provides another person the opportunity to learn more about gardening, recycling, water use, and the beautification of our city. We’re excited to continue growing these efforts today and for years to come and are thankful for the opportunity provided by Keep America Beautiful and Lowe’s to potentially double the funds raised via our crowdsourcing campaign.”
The garden is moving from Central and Indian School Road to 18th Avenue and Pierson Street in Phoenix. Monies raised will go toward moving expenses such as new fencing, utilities, irrigation, watering, gardening supplies, infrastructure, and much more. PHX Renews, their former garden, has been a valued project in the community since its beginning in 2011 with significant support from Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. Recently closed, the garden transformed a 15-acre vacant lot into a sustainable oasis with numerous community partners and hundreds of volunteers who created a vibrant, green space for people to gather. The new location of the Keep Phoenix Beautiful Community Garden will continue these efforts, and offer new features to residents such as a greenhouse, aquaponics station, recycle and composting station, children’s area, outdoor classroom section, and more. The campaign will be raising funds for these new stations and amenities, as well as gardening tools and needed supplies.
In collaboration with Keep America Beautiful, Keep Phoenix Beautiful continues to make an impressive impact in the desert community. The new garden will provide local residents the opportunity to receive hands-on education about urban agriculture and sustainability.
Individuals are encouraged to donate beginning today through Aug. 31 to raise funds needed to make the garden a lasting success. Different donation levels are available. A final campaign party celebrating Keep Phoenix Beautiful’s 35th Anniversary will take place in August.
