Keep San Antonio Beautiful worked to keep Fiesta Verde by encouraging recycling during the city’s Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades.

Keep San Antonio Beautiful and more than 300 volunteers distributed bags to parade spectators to collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Individuals who filled two bags with recyclable items earned a Fiesta medal for their efforts.

“Volunteers had fun educating our community on being good stewards of our environment while enjoying a great experience being part of the parade,” said Maggie Hernandez, Keep San Antonio Beautiful Board of Directors’ President, in an email.

This was the 7th annual keep Fiesta Verde event, which was held in partnership with the City of San Antonio, Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association, Battle of Flowers Association. According to the city, about five tons to eight tons of recyclables are collected each year after the Battle of Flowers parade alone.
