Keep Waco Beautiful hosts annual MLK Day of Service event.

Keep Waco Beautiful, in Waco, Texas, joined the Waco Paddle Company to host its annual Brazos River Cleanup on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event was a way for people to offer their service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Nearly 400 volunteers – on foot and in kayaks and canoes –  helped clean up litter in and around the Brazos River and surrounding parks. Several groups from around the community participated in the cleanup, including members of Baylor University football team, local Americorps members, and the Magnolia Foundation. Keep Waco Beautiful said it collected 680 pounds of litter, and filled two 96-gallon recycling carts full of emptied plastic bottles, cardboard boxes and cans. Among the unusual items found during the event were fishing equipment and boating poles.

Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the country from Jackson, Mississippi to Montevallo, Alabama joined with volunteers in their communities to observe MLK Day of Service.
