Members of Keep America Beautiful’s headquarters’ staff joined volunteers from Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) and the National Park Service to beautify the north end of Ellis Island in New York Harbor.

The Ellis Island project was the third of three events hosted for Liberty International Underwriters volunteers this year.

“We appreciate the work that Keep America Beautiful does in communities across the nation,” said William Bell, Senior Vice President, Environmental, LIU. “LIU Environmental wants to support that hard work as it reflects our efforts to be good corporate citizens in support of the communities we live and work in as well.”

Volunteers from the LIU Environmental division spent the morning of June 16 painting metal post and chain dividers around the American Immigrant Wall of Honor, which is the permanent exhibit of individual or family names featured at Ellis Island. It is the only place in the United States where an individual can honor his or her family heritage at a National Monument.

Previous partnership employee engagement partner events took place earlier this year in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, where LIU volunteers cleaned and beautified the Peterborough Street Playground, and at Skinner Park Community Roots Garden in Chicago, where volunteers planted two new gardens and provided additional maintenance to existing gardens.

Keep America Beautiful and its community-based Affiliate Network are proud to work with LIU Environmental on many of these important community improvement initiatives.
