Elena Schneider, Keep America Beautiful’s Volunteer Spotlight, just received Keep Albany-Daugherty Beautiful’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award at KADB’s annual awards banquet.
Elena is called “an ambassador for East Albany” by many in the community. She removes litter in an area near a local Walmart every day, rain or shine! She then emails KADB a photo of the trash bags she collects daily and details the location. All told, she filled 123 trash bags of litter during 2016, as well as reporting graffiti sites and weeding and raking areas in need of sprucing up.
The spirit of Elena and many other volunteers were recently celebrated by KADB at its annual volunteer awards celebration, the 28th year the Keep America Beautiful affiliate has conducted its awards program.
It was noted in the Albany Herald, that KADB had more than 109,000 volunteers and participants who donated nearly 132,500 hours at KADB events in 2016.
Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard and Dougherty County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas were on hand to present the awards, including the Volunteer of the Year Award to Elena, pictured above.
