Keep America Beautiful has presented a Sue Smith Professional Leadership Award to Ray Scott of Keep California Beautiful as part of its 2020 National Awards Program. Scott serves as president of Keep California Beautiful, board member of Keep Bakersfield Beautiful, and member of several Keep America Beautiful committees.
The Keep America Beautiful National Awards program celebrates the work of its 700 community-based affiliates, millions of volunteers and participants, and corporate and community partners for their commitment to end littering, improve recycling, and beautify America’s communities. The Sue Smith Professional Leadership Award is named in honor of the Keep America Beautiful former director of education and current Keep America Beautiful-Chicago Interim Director.
“I’m honored that Keep America Beautiful has recognized me with the Sue Smith Professional Leadership Award,” said Ray Scott.
Keep America Beautiful recognized Scott for his demonstrated impact to the organization at the local, state, and national levels. During his time, he has and continues to build partnerships, secure funders, and create innovative programs. Additionally, he has documented over 6,600 volunteer hours with 3,000 hours dedicated to Keep America Beautiful activities.
“I live out my Marine Corps Code of Conduct Semper Fidelis, always faithful, God, Country, Corps – Corps meaning community,” Scott added.
Scott is also a full-time employee of Price Disposal and commits an almost equal amount of time to volunteering.
“He picks up the recyclables and cooks the hamburgers, demonstrating that no job is too large or small,” described his award nomination application.
